Our recruitment process aims to ensure we employ the best person for a particular job.

The actual steps in our recruitment and selection process are as follows:

  1. Advertising – electronic, newspapers, recruitment agency
  2. Shortlisting – resume screening, brief phone interviews
  3. Interview – conducted by a Human Resources practitioner and other key stakeholders of the position
  4. Assessment - dependent on the role, this may include one or more of the following
    • Psychometric
    • Computer Skills
    • Verbal/numerical
    • Mechanical comprehension
    • Weld
    • Functional fitness
  5. Reference checking
  6. Pre-employment medical – if required, will typically be conducted by a medical practitioner
  7. Letter of offer (i.e. contract of employment)


New employees undergo an orientation/induction which covers the following:

  1. Employment handbook
  2. Generic Site induction
    • Health and Safety Component
    • HR Component
  3. Site Specific induction

At Isis Central Sugar Mill we pride ourselves on our efficient and reliable operation, with a history spanning more than 120 years.

Our 2018 crushing season is due to start in June 2018, and we are now inviting interested parties to register their interest in seasonal positions. 

We are seeking people who have a positive outlook, are physically fit, and can remain with us for the whole crushing season (to Oct/Nov/Dec). 

Production is continuous 24/7, so most of the seasonal positions involve shift and weekend work in what can be physically demanding roles, requiring a high level of trust, accountability and cooperation.

Current employees with contracts which expire at the end of the maintenance season, and who are interested in work during the crushing season, should also register thier interest.

Although you may have registered your interest in previous years, you have to register again for 2018.

Work in previous years does not guarantee that there will be an available position for you in the current crushing season.   It is important that all applicants meet the requirements of the position on application.

The type of work available includes:

  • Locomotive Assistant
  • Rover (basic boiler accreditation)
  • Tractor driver
  • Sugar Boiler
  • Effet/Sugar Boiler’s Assistant
  • Fugal Operator
  • Laboratory Chemist
  • General Labourer

Applicants certified to operate steam plant, mobile plant or with rigging/ dogging or sugar laboratory qualifications are preferred. 

All applicants must possess a current C class manual driver’s licence.

A medical assessment, with drug and alcohol screen forms part of the selection process. Applicants are required to demonstrate that they have the fitness and capacity to perform the duties of the applicable position safely.
